Glowing Grasslands

Driving the backroads of the badlands of North Dakota on a gloomy day led us on adventures down rough, red, rutted roads that on maps looked well maintained, but in reality, stretched only into soppy grass. A seemingly futile attempt to discover color in the badlands changed in an instant while on a non-existent road, when clouds momentarily cleared and we looked back over our shoulder. The color we sought was there, right where we were seeking it.
