Rainbow Beyond the Hail, Summer Storm at Indian Hills, North Dakota
A bright, sunny summer day began perfectly for a hike on the Nux Baa Ga Trail at Indian Hills, west of Garrison, North Dakota. Soon storm clouds approached from the northwest, and hiking stopped; however, the powerful beauty of a summer storm brought its own sort of wonderment!
The Nux Baa Ga Trail (which means "all the people" in the Arikara language) is a six mile hiking/biking trail with six interpretive stops telling of the rich Native American History in the area. Included is a tribute to Elbowoods and other communities lost, now under Lake Sakakawea, as a result of the construction of the Garrison Dam on the Missouri River in 1953.
